New standards have created terrific conditions for deepening instructional practices with informational text. Yet, young readers need informational materials that are easy enough to allow them to focus on and understand the content without being overwhelmed, and challenging enough to provide just the right level of opportunity for growth in application of key reading skills and strategies.
